Punta Sur Eco Park

Punta Sur covers the southern tip of the island — about 1,000 hectares of mangroves, beaches, lagoons, and dunes. It is one of the more thoughtfully managed parts of Cozumel, with restricted access designed to protect nesting sea turtles in summer and the resident crocodile and bird populations year-round.

The centrepiece is the Celarain lighthouse, a 19th-century white tower that you can climb for views over the wild end of the island and the Caribbean. A small navigation museum in the keeper's house describes the wrecks that ran aground on the reef. Boat tours of the Colombia lagoon and walking trails through the mangroves run from the entrance. Bring sun protection and water; shade is limited.
