La Fuente is one of the oldest and most authentic cantinas in the Guadalajara historic centre — a traditional Mexican drinking establishment that has been operating in more or less the same form for decades. The décor is dark wood, old bottles, and bullfighting memorabilia. The tequila selection is serious and the botanas (free snacks that come with each drink order) are generous.
This is the kind of place where locals come to talk loudly about football and politics, and where mariachis wander in unbidden on weekend afternoons. Come mid-afternoon rather than after dark for the best atmosphere and least crowding.
