The Basilica of Our Lady of Guanajuato anchors the historic centre with a warm yellow facade and a busy little plaza in front. Built in the 17th century, it is one of the city's most recognisable churches.
Inside is the small, much-venerated image of the Virgin of Guanajuato, traditionally said to have been given to the mining city by Spain's King Charles I. Step in while wandering between the Jardin de la Union, the theatre, and the steep lanes above the centre.
