A famously narrow alley a short walk from the Plaza San Roque, where the upper balconies on either side are only 69 cm apart — close enough for two people to kiss between them. The legend has made it a busy spot for tourists and engaged couples; a small fee allows you to stand on the third step and pose with a partner for the obligatory photograph. The alley is crowded by midday and quietest first thing in the morning.
Callejón del Beso (Alley of the Kiss)
A story
Local legend says Doña Carmen, the daughter of a wealthy mine owner, was forbidden to see her poor suitor Don Luis. He rented the house opposite, only to find the balconies were close enough to lean across — they exchanged kisses across the alley until her father caught them and stabbed her, leaving Luis to kiss her bloodied hand goodbye.
