The main building of one of Mexico's oldest universities — a vast, blindingly white neoclassical pile on a steep slope, approached by an exhausting flight of 113 steps. Founded as a Jesuit college in 1732 and elevated to a state university in 1945. The exterior is the famous shot; the interior is mostly off-limits except during scheduled open days, but the steps themselves are a destination — students lounge on them between classes and there is usually some kind of impromptu performance.
