Seafood in Hermosillo

The Sea of Cortez, two hours west of the city, supplies Hermosillo with excellent fresh seafood — shrimp, oysters, clams, and fish that arrive daily from the Guaymas and Kino Bay fleets. The city's marisquerías are busy, informal places where the menu centres on shrimp cocktails, caldo de mariscos (seafood broth), and platters of mixed shellfish. Aguachile — raw shrimp cured in lime juice with green chiles and cucumber — is a Sonoran speciality worth seeking out.

El Machi and Los Arcos mariscos are reliable institutions. For something more casual, the seafood stalls at the Mercado Municipal offer fresh cocktails and aguachile at low prices. Sundays are traditionally the day for a family seafood lunch in Hermosillo.
