Jerez de García Salinas lies about 55 km south-west of Zacatecas city on the road toward Jalpa. By bus, frequent departures run from Zacatecas's Central Camionera; the journey takes about one hour. By car, take Highway 54 south from Zacatecas and follow signs for Jerez — the route is straightforward and the drive through the high desert landscape is pleasant.
There is no direct connection from Guadalajara or Mexico City to Jerez; all visitors connect through Zacatecas. Most people visit Jerez as a half-day or full-day excursion from Zacatecas city rather than staying overnight, though there are a couple of small hotels on and near the plaza if you want to linger.
