Metropolitan Park is Leon's big outdoor release valve, wrapped around a reservoir on the north side of the city. It is popular for walking, cycling, picnics, and weekend family outings, and it gives a more relaxed picture of Leon than the fairgrounds or shopping districts.
Birdlife and open water are part of the draw, especially early in the day. It is not wild country, but for travelers crossing central Mexico's cities, the space and horizon are welcome.
