Zoo León is one of the better municipal zoos in the Bajío region, set in a large park on the eastern edge of the city. The zoo has around 2,000 animals across 260 species, with habitats that are reasonably spacious by Mexican standards. Big cats, African and American ungulates, primates, and a well-regarded reptile section make up the core collection.
The zoo is popular with León families and tends to be crowded on weekend mornings. It is probably not worth a special trip from Guanajuato, but if you are based in León for a day and traveling with children, it is a solid option. The park surrounding the zoo also has picnic areas and a small amusement park.
