The oldest operating Talavera workshop in Puebla, founded in 1824 and still producing certified Talavera using traditional methods. Free guided tours run throughout the day, taking you through the full production process: the mixing of local clays, throwing on the wheel, the application of the distinctive tin-oxide glaze that gives Talavera its creamy white base coat, the hand-painting by individual artisans, and the double-firing in wood-burning kilns.
You can watch painters at their benches working on intricate blue-and-white geometric patterns, floral motifs, and the more elaborate polychrome designs that command higher prices. The showroom sells everything from small espresso cups (MX$100–200) to enormous decorative plates and sink basins. Prices are higher than market stalls, but the quality is certified and genuine. A certificate of authenticity accompanies larger purchases.
