Las Coloradas, the famous pink salt lakes, are an hour west and easy to reach by car or organised tour. The flamingo town of Río Lagartos sits just beyond them, with boat trips deeper into the biosphere reserve. South, the colonial town of Valladolid and the cenotes around it are a long but worthwhile day out.
