El Cuyo is about two and a half hours from Mérida and three from Cancún, on the far north coast of the Yucatán. A single road runs in from the south through Colonia Yucatán and across a long causeway over the mangroves. Buses run from Tizimín a few times a day, but a hire car gives you much more freedom — there is essentially no transport in the village itself.
