Kitesurfing

From November through April a reliable cross-onshore wind blows along this stretch of the Gulf, and El Cuyo has quietly turned into one of the best kitesurfing spots in Mexico. The water is shallow for hundreds of metres out, the beach is long and largely empty, and the wind is steady at 15–25 knots on most afternoons.

Two or three small schools operate out of the village offering lessons and gear rental for around USD 80 per hour and full courses for beginners. Outside of these months the place reverts to a sleepy fishing village; come in winter if the wind is the point.
