La Vie en Rose is one of the most popular restaurants in Querétaro's historic centre, occupying a colonial courtyard a short walk from the Plaza de Armas. The menu covers contemporary Mexican food with some French influence — good chiles en nogada when in season, well-executed meat dishes, and a serious wine list that draws from the Querétaro wine region. The setting, with its courtyard fountain and bougainvillea, is as good as the food.
It fills up at weekends, particularly for Sunday lunch, when Querétaro families come for a long, leisurely meal. Reservations are a good idea on weekends. The wine list is worth exploring: several of the Querétaro state bodegas produce wines that are rarely seen outside the region.
