Plaza Principal

The central square of Reynosa's old town, shaded by trees and anchored by the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, a solid early 20th-century church with twin towers that dominate the skyline. The plaza itself is a pleasant place to sit and watch the city go about its business — vendors selling snacks, families on benches, shoeshiners working the corners.

The square is busiest on weekends. A handful of restaurants and cantinas face onto it from the surrounding streets, most serving straightforward northern Mexican food: carne asada, cabrito, and cold beer. The Mercado Zaragoza, a covered market, is a short walk to the north and worth a look for the stalls selling dried chiles, spices, and northern Mexican provisions.
