Cristo de las Noas

Cristo de las Noas is a large statue of Christ on the cross that stands on a hilltop east of Saltillo's city centre, looking down over the city. The site is reached by road — there is a parking area and a short path to the base — and the views over the basin from the hill are the main reason to come, arguably better than the statue itself.

The hill is popular with local families on weekend mornings. A small chapel sits nearby. The walk from the base of the hill to the statue takes about ten minutes on a paved path. At 1,600 metres altitude already, Saltillo sits high enough that the surrounding landscape of desert scrub and mountain ranges is visible in all directions from the summit.

A story
The statue stands 22 metres tall on Cerro del Pueblo (Hill of the People), one of several hills ringing the Saltillo basin. On a clear day you can see the full extent of the city spreading across the high desert floor, with the Sierra Madre Oriental rising to the west.
