Fábrica La Aurora

Fábrica La Aurora is a converted 19th-century textile factory on the north edge of the historic centre, now housing a collection of galleries, antique dealers, and design studios. The industrial architecture — high iron ceilings, brick columns, large windows — has been preserved and the building repurposed into one of the best browsing destinations in San Miguel.

Thirty or so dealers and galleries occupy the factory floor, ranging from Mexican folk art and antiques to contemporary painting and photography. The quality is consistently high and the prices reflect it. The factory's original machinery is displayed in the corridors, providing context for the building's former life. La Aurora is less crowded than the city centre on weekend afternoons and makes for a better gallery experience than the boutiques around El Jardín. A small café in the courtyard serves coffee and light food.
