A large, partially open cenote right in the centre of Valladolid, a few blocks east of the main plaza. Half the cave roof has collapsed, so the swimming hole sits in a great circular bowl of pale limestone overhung by vines and tree roots. A path spirals down inside the cliff to the water; black catfish (lub) swim near the surface in the shadows.
Entry is cheap and the place is rarely busy compared to the more touristed cenotes outside town. Bring goggles and a towel. There is a restaurant in the small park above the cenote serving Yucatecan food with a balcony view down into the cave.
