Lakefront Bars at Puerto Salvador Allende

The Puerto Salvador Allende development on the lake shore has a strip of open-air bars and restaurants that operate in the evenings and are at their best on weekend nights. They range from simple cervecerías serving cold Victoria beer and bar snacks to larger establishments with live music — marimba, salsa, or local rock bands depending on the night.

The setting is the draw: tables facing the lake, the breeze off the water, and the glow of the Sandino silhouette on the hill behind. It is one of the more atmospheric places to drink in the city and is notably popular with Managuans rather than just tourists, which gives it an authenticity that the more polished hotel bars lack. Prices are lower than the Carretera Masaya strip. Come after 8pm when it gets going.
