Puerto Salvador Allende is a lakefront entertainment complex on the shore of Lake Managua, developed in the 2010s as part of a broader effort to reclaim the waterfront after decades of neglect. The development has restaurants, a small market, a playground, boat rides on the lake, and a pleasant promenade that catches the evening breeze off the water.
It is most enjoyable on weekend evenings, when Managuan families crowd the walkways, vendors sell snacks and cold drinks, and live music sometimes plays from the outdoor stages. The lake itself is not clean enough to swim in, but the views across the water to the volcanic skyline are genuinely attractive, especially at sunset. The complex is adjacent to the old lakefront plaza and the Rubén Darío theatre, making this part of the city worth an evening.
