La Palma is a gateway town, not a destination in itself. What you come here for is what lies beyond: Darién National Park, Emberá-Wounaan and Guna villages reachable by river, and the extraordinary ecological landscape of the Gulf of San Miguel. From La Palma, all of it is accessible by dugout canoe or small motorboat. The town provides the logistics — guides, boats, permits, supplies — and then gets out of the way.
