Guanica is on the southwest coast of Puerto Rico, about 90 minutes by car from San Juan via the PR-52 toll road and PR-2. Ponce is half an hour to the east, and the nearest commercial airport — Mercedita in Ponce — receives a handful of US domestic flights. Most visitors arrive in a rental car from San Juan.
There is no useful public transport into Guanica; públicos (shared vans) run between Ponce and surrounding towns but are infrequent and time-consuming. A car is essential for reaching the trailheads in the state forest and the beaches east of town.
