When to Go

Guanica sits in one of the driest corners of Puerto Rico, which is the whole reason the dry forest exists. Annual rainfall is only around 30 inches, almost all of it between August and November. Temperatures stay in the high 20s to low 30s C year-round, but the lack of cloud cover means the sun is fierce.

Best months: December to April — dry, slightly cooler, and outside hurricane season. Avoid: September and October, peak hurricane months. Worth timing: the patronales (town festival) for the feast day of San Antonio Abad in mid-January, with music and processions in the plaza.
