Playa Caña Gorda

Family-friendly beach with calm water and shaded picnic areas

Caña Gorda is the most accessible and most popular beach in Guanica, a long arc of pale sand backed by sea grape trees and palms. The water is calm and shallow well out from shore, which makes it the obvious choice with small children. There are lifeguards on duty, picnic tables under thatched shelters, showers, and bathrooms, plus a small fee to use the parking lot.

It can get busy on weekends and holidays with families from Ponce and San Juan. Come on a weekday and you may have long stretches of beach to yourself. Snorkelling is mediocre directly off the beach but improves around the rocky points at either end.
