Getting There

By car from San Juan, Gurabo is about 30 minutes south via PR-30 and PR-30R. The drive takes you through the suburban sprawl of Caguas before the road climbs into greener, hillier territory. It's a straightforward journey and parking in town is not difficult.

There is no reliable public transport from San Juan to Gurabo. A rental car is strongly recommended for anyone wanting to explore the interior of Puerto Rico, and Gurabo fits naturally into a day of driving around the eastern mountain region.

Públicos (shared taxis operating on fixed routes) connect Gurabo to Caguas, about 10 kilometres to the west. From Caguas there are connections toward San Juan, though the full journey by público requires patience and some local knowledge about where to wait and which vehicles to take. It is manageable but not straightforward for visitors unfamiliar with the system.
