The hills surrounding Gurabo offer informal hiking with rewarding views across the central mountain range. On clear days you can see all the way down toward the coast. The terrain is typical of Puerto Rico's interior — steep, green, and lush, with trails passing through secondary forest, farmland edges, and open ridge lines.
Trail access is informal and routes are not consistently marked or maintained. Ask locally — at the plaza, at a restaurant, or at the university — for current advice on where to walk. The area around the Sierra de Cayey is beautiful country and worth exploring if you have the time and a willingness to go at it independently. Wear shoes with grip, bring water, and start in the morning before the heat builds.
