The Universidad del Turabo campus sits just outside the town centre and gives Gurabo a slightly more dynamic character than a purely agricultural municipality would otherwise have. Students from across eastern Puerto Rico attend, and the campus is active during the academic year.
The grounds are pleasant to walk through, with open spaces and greenery. The university occasionally hosts public cultural events, lectures, and performances — check locally when you arrive if you want to see what's on. Even without a specific event, it's a pleasant place to wander for an hour, and the campus bookshop (if open) is a good spot to pick up something on Puerto Rican history or literature.
