The main day trip from Ponce is the boat excursion to Caja de Muertos, an uninhabited island nature reserve about 8 miles offshore. The reef is teeming with tropical fish — nurse sharks, spotted eagle rays, and schools of blue tang are common sights. Several operators run half-day guided snorkelling trips from the La Guancha area.
