Isabel Segunda

The ferry-port town and administrative seat on the north coast

Isabel Segunda — Isabel II on signs — is where the ferry from Ceiba arrives and where Vieques's banks, government offices, and main supermarket are. The grid of streets above the dock has a handful of late-nineteenth-century houses worth a wander, and the fort on the hill is the obvious sight.

Most visitors pass through quickly on the way to Esperanza or the refuge beaches. But the malecón below the fort is a quiet spot for a sunset drink, and the morning market off the main square is the best place on the island to buy fresh fruit.
