Nevis Botanical Gardens

A well-maintained private garden on the lower slopes of Nevis Peak, with tropical plants and a rainforest conservatory

The Nevis Botanical Gardens occupy the grounds of the Montpelier Plantation Estate on the southern slopes of Nevis Peak. The gardens were established in the 1990s and have grown into one of the better horticultural attractions in the Leeward Islands, with sections devoted to orchids, bromeliads, palms, and flowering tropicals, plus a small enclosed rainforest conservatory that creates a cool, fern-filled microclimate.

The restored plantation great house at the centre of the property now functions as a restaurant, making the gardens a pleasant stopping point for lunch during a tour of the island. A network of paths through the gardens takes about an hour to walk at a leisurely pace. The lower slopes setting gives good views toward the sea, and the gardens are cool enough to be comfortable even in the midday heat. Opening hours are typically 9am to 4pm, closed Sundays.
