Pinney's Beach

A long stretch of calm Caribbean beach with a scattering of beach bars, backed by coconut palms

Pinney's Beach is the main beach on Nevis, a several-kilometre crescent of pale sand running along the western leeward coast north of Charlestown. The beach faces calm Caribbean water and is shaded by coconut palms for most of its length. It's never crowded. A few low-key beach bars and the Four Seasons resort mark the southern section; further north the beach becomes progressively emptier.

The Sunshine's beach bar at the northern end of Pinney's has become something of an institution — it's famous for its Killer Bee rum punch, said to have a delayed potency that catches the unwary off-guard. The snorkelling off the beach is decent, particularly around the rocky sections at either end. Sea turtles are occasionally spotted in the water. The beach is a short taxi ride or a pleasant 20-minute walk north from Charlestown.
