The Whaleboner Bar and Restaurant

The Whaleboner is one of the more distinctive bars in the Caribbean. Built around the literal bones of whales killed under Bequia's aboriginal subsistence quota, the small bar and restaurant sits on the Belmont Walkway looking out over Admiralty Bay. The atmosphere is unpolished, friendly, and authentically local.

Drinks are cold and reasonably priced; the kitchen does simple seafood, burgers, and rotis. It is a sundowner spot as much as a dinner one, and a good base for getting a feel for the harbour-front nightlife. Live music on some evenings.

A story
The bar stools are made from actual whale vertebrae and the doorway is framed by a pair of jawbones — all from the last whales killed in Bequia's traditional hunt. Disconcerting or fascinating, depending on the visitor.
