San Fernando has a different feel from Port of Spain — less tourist infrastructure, more everyday Trinidad. The hill, the market, the waterfront, and the energy of Carnival season are the main draws. It also makes a practical base for the Pitch Lake at La Brea and the quieter beaches of the southwest peninsula.
