The lagoon between South Caicos and East Caicos is one of the great bonefishing flats in the Caribbean — wide, shallow turquoise water with hard sand and turtle-grass bottoms, walked by schools of bonefish in numbers that have largely vanished from more developed islands. Permit and small tarpon are also caught here.
A handful of local guides operate from Cockburn Harbour, working from poling skiffs and meeting clients at the small resorts on the island. The fishing is best on the rising tide; bring polarised glasses, sunscreen, and an 8-weight fly rod or light spinning gear.
