Eating on South Caicos means conch and lobster, more or less in any direction. The catch is unloaded a few hundred metres from the kitchens that cook it, so freshness is not an issue.
The handful of small restaurants in Cockburn Harbour open and close with the seasons; the most reliable are usually the bar at the Sailrock Resort at the south end of the island and Eastern Inn on Front Street. For something cheap and unfussy, the fish fry held in the harbour on certain summer Friday evenings is a community event with whole fried snapper, conch fritters, peas and rice, and a few cold beers.
There are no full grocery stores; small island shops carry the basics and a weekly barge from Providenciales brings most of the fresh produce.
