Getting There

Juneau is not accessible by road — there are no highways connecting it to the rest of Alaska or to Canada. The two ways in are by air or by sea.

By air: Juneau International Airport is served by Alaska Airlines, American, Delta, and United, with connections through Seattle, Anchorage, and other Pacific Northwest hubs. The airport is about 9 miles northwest of downtown.

By ferry: The Alaska Marine Highway System connects Juneau to Bellingham (Washington), Prince Rupert (British Columbia), and other Southeast Alaska ports including Ketchikan, Sitka, and Skagway. Ferries take passengers, vehicles, and cargo; the journey from Bellingham takes about 60–70 hours. This is also a scenic option for those who want to experience the Inside Passage.

By cruise ship: Juneau is one of the busiest cruise ports in Alaska. Ships dock at the downtown waterfront from May through September; passengers typically have several hours ashore.
