Juneau's main draw is its extraordinary natural setting. The Mendenhall Glacier is the headline attraction, but the city also has a strong cultural side — the Alaska State Museum is one of the best in the state, and the historic downtown rewards slow wandering. Most outdoor activities are run through operators who know the terrain well; flightseeing over the Juneau Icefield and whale watching in the Gastineau Channel are both genuinely outstanding.
