Nagley's General Store

Old-school general store across from the Fairview Inn

Address Main Street, Talkeetna, AK

Nagley's General Store is a Talkeetna institution. The low log building faces the Fairview Inn from across Main Street and sells the kind of mix that only makes sense in a remote Alaskan town: ice cream, fishing tackle, locally made goods, and basic provisions. It is exactly the sort of place that rewards a slow browse.

The store is also where Stubbs held court. The orange cat served as Talkeetna's honorary mayor from 1997 until his death in 2017, receiving visitors, ignoring council meetings, and generating more international press coverage than any actual Alaskan politician. His successor Aurora continues the tradition.
