Four Peaks Brewing Company

Tempe brewery in a 1892 ice-making plant, Arizona's biggest craft beer name

Four Peaks is the largest of Arizona's craft breweries and runs out of a beautiful red-brick building in Tempe that was originally built in 1892 as an ice-making and creamery plant — handy bones for a brewery. The original tasting room and pub still operates here, and it is the better visit even though the company has since opened branches in Scottsdale and Phoenix's airport.

Kilt Lifter, a Scottish-style ale, is the flagship and accounts for the majority of what they make. The seasonal Pumpkin Porter, available from October, has a cult following. Food runs to elevated pub fare — burgers, wings, fish-and-chips — and the patio looks out toward the Tempe Town Lake bridge. Brewery tours run on weekend afternoons.
