The Palace Restaurant and Saloon

The Palace is widely considered the oldest bar in Arizona, operating in some form on this site since the 1870s. The current building, rebuilt in brick after the 1900 fire, retains the original back bar — a carved wooden piece installed in the 1880s that made the famous journey across the plaza on fire night and back again when the dust settled.

The food is straightforward American fare: steaks, burgers, and Southwestern standards. The quality is fine without being exceptional, but that is not really the point. The atmosphere — the pressed-tin ceiling, the long bar, the period photographs — is excellent, and there is nowhere in Prescott that better captures the town's frontier history.

Worth visiting for a drink or a meal even if you are not particularly interested in the food. The bar itself, particularly on a quiet afternoon, has a comfortable permanence to it.
