When to Go

Prescott's elevation — around 1,600 metres — makes it dramatically more comfortable in summer than the lower desert cities. While Phoenix and Tucson hit 40°C, Prescott sits at 30–32°C at the peak of summer, with cool nights. This makes it a popular summer retreat for Arizonans, particularly in July and August.

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the most pleasant times to visit. Temperatures are mild, the ponderosa pines are at their best, and the hiking conditions are excellent.

Winter brings occasional snow, which is genuinely attractive in the forest setting. The town celebrates the holiday season enthusiastically, and the old downtown looks good under snow. January and February can be cold, but the town remains open and functional.

The Prescott Frontier Days Rodeo in late June and early July is one of the oldest and largest professional rodeos in the United States. The Bluegrass Festival in late June draws musicians from across the country. Both events fill accommodation quickly.
