The Stand

A walk-up roadside eatery in north Scottsdale that has become a small institution for Sonoran hot dogs done properly. The original location is a converted gas station, and the staff cook on a flat-top grill under the awning. Order at the window, eat at the picnic tables under the misters.

Cash and card accepted, with most items under $10. Pair the dog with a cucumber agua fresca. The line moves quickly; weekday lunches are the best time to visit.

A story
The Stand revives Sonoran hot-dog culture — a Mexican-American tradition from across the Arizona border — and serves it from a roadside hut painted in deliberate retro shades. The bacon-wrapped Sonoran hot dog on a bolillo roll with pinto beans, salsa, and crema is the canonical order.
