Sedona has a small regional airport (Sedona Airport, SEZ) with limited commercial service — most visitors fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX, about 2 hours south) or Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG, 45 minutes north). Car rental from Phoenix is the standard approach; the drive up Interstate 17 to Highway 179 takes 90–120 minutes depending on traffic.
Sedona is 28 miles south of Flagstaff via scenic Highway 89A through Oak Creek Canyon — a beautiful drive with switchbacks descending the Mogollon Rim. This route is the preferred approach from Flagstaff or from I-40 coming from the east.
There is no direct Amtrak service. Greyhound serves Flagstaff, from where you would need to arrange a taxi or rideshare for the final leg. Most visitors drive; Sedona is very difficult without a car, as the main trails and many sights are spread across a large area.
