Eisendrath House

The Eisendrath House — known locally as the pink house on the hill — is a 1930 adobe villa above the Salt River, built by a wealthy Chicago heiress wintering in Arizona. It is a rare surviving example of pueblo revival architecture in the area, with thick adobe walls, rounded corners, and timber vigas projecting from the roof.

The city of Tempe restored it in 2012 and it now serves as a water conservation education centre. The grounds are open daily and have interpretive panels on desert water use; tours of the interior run on selected days. The hilltop location, looking across Tempe Town Lake to the city skyline, makes for a good short visit.
