Yuma's appeal is rooted in its frontier history and its unlikely position at the junction of the Colorado River, two states, and Mexico. The Yuma Territorial Prison is the obvious starting point, followed by the Colorado River State Historic Park on the riverfront. Outside town, the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge offers serious desert wilderness just 40 miles north.
