Buckstaff Bathhouse

The original 1912 bathhouse, still running its century-old soaking routine

The traditional experience — and the one you should pick if you want to know what taking the waters actually meant in 1920. Buckstaff offers the classic seven-step bath: a private porcelain tub of hot mineral water, a vapor cabinet, hot packs, a needle shower, and a Swedish massage. Attendants in starched whites walk you through it.

The neoclassical building is small and unfussed, and the experience is more clinical than spa-like — no candles, no piped music, just hot water and a routine that hasn't been updated in a century. Walk- ins only, separate men's and women's wings, closed Sundays. Bring nothing; everything is provided.

A story
Buckstaff has been operating continuously since 1912 — the only bathhouse on the row never to have closed. The bathing routine has barely changed in that time: porcelain tub, sitz bath, vapor cabinet, needle shower, hot pack, and massage, in that order.
