Tiny Town

An entire miniature world built by hand from matchsticks and household scrap

A folk-art masterpiece on Whittington Avenue: a working miniature railroad winding through buildings, villages, and landscapes constructed almost entirely from matchsticks, paperclips, wire, and tin cans. Frank Moshinskie began the project in 1930s Wisconsin and his family kept it running for decades after the move to Hot Springs.

Trains run on schedule, lights come on at "night," and a remarkable amount of the scenery moves — the kind of obsessive, decades-long undertaking that one person makes and the rest of us just stare at. Open seasonally; the visit takes about an hour and rewards a slow walk around.
