Atascadero Printery

The Printery is the original 1915 building from which Edward Gardner Lewis published the magazines that financed and promoted his Atascadero colony. The two-storey brick building survived a long, neglected century — including significant damage in the 2003 earthquake — and is slowly being restored by a community foundation.

Public access is limited, but the exterior alone is worth the short walk from City Hall. The building is one of the last tangible reminders of how Atascadero began as a planned utopian community marketed through the printed page. Check the Printery Foundation website for occasional open days.
