A private toll road through the Del Monte Forest and along some of the most dramatic coastline in California. The drive loops from Pacific Grove through Pebble Beach to Carmel, with a dozen official stops along the way: the sea-spray Bird Rock with its pelicans and sea lions, the craggy Cypress Point lookout, and the Lone Cypress — the single weather-beaten tree on a granite promontory that appears on every Pebble Beach logo. The golf courses are world-famous (the Pebble Beach Pro-Am happens here in February) and the houses along the route range from large to extravagant.
Entry fee for cars at any of the five gates. Cyclists and pedestrians enter free. The drive takes about an hour by car if you stop at the main viewpoints; allow two to three hours if you want to walk the coastal paths.
