Point Lobos State Reserve is one of the finest coastal landscapes on the Monterey-Big Sur edge, with rocky coves, clear water, wind-shaped cypress, sea lions, birds, and short trails that deliver views almost immediately. It is compact, but the density of scenery is exceptional.
Arrive early because parking is limited and the reserve is popular for good reason. Even a short loop can be memorable, but a slower visit lets you move between headlands, sheltered coves, and forested sections without reducing the place to a single viewpoint.
